Up for auction is this charming antique Catholic prayer book titled Violet of Fervent Devotions (original Czech: Fialka vroucného zbožství), a devotional guide for fervent Christians authored by Fr. Leopold Fric, catechist in Horní Litvínov. Published in 1905 by A. J. Celler in & Son, Prague (Kral. Vinohrady No. 17), this 119-year-old volume measures approximately 4.5 x 3 inches (based on scale) and features a locked yellow celluloid cover with intricate embossed floral and eye motifs, brass clasp (functional but a bit loose), and minor wear consistent with age—some edge fraying and light soiling, but interior pages clean and intact.
The book opens with a rare original imprimatur approval dated May 10, 1905, from the Catholic Ordinariate in Prague, granted to Fr. Fric at his April 29 request (No. 553). Signed by Jos. Grim, former mandate Illus Depot General and office manager, it certifies the manuscript's orthodoxy.
